Welcome. Here we are in 2020 and we are launching our new website and starting a Blog.
Who would’ve thought it!
We want to start by highlighting the work of Parent 4 Parent. Many of you will already be aware of this support or have been supported by the work of our members. Parent 4 Parent has been running alongside PCC since January 2016.
The aim is to offer a supportive person to give guidance, information and signpost to appropriate services. This can look different for every family we meet; some families may require help with a specific meeting whether with school, SEN Assessment team, ASDAT feedback meeting, EHCP review or Team Around the Child (TAC). The needs and support vary from family to family. We can support with Appeals, Moving Forward meetings and Tribunals alongside signposting and assisting with access to advice and guidance regarding SEND law.
Referrals for our support come from parents directly, through word of mouth, through PCC representatives/members attending the Passionate About the Spectrum/ADHD course, managing Challenging Behaviour drop ins and through professionals like Targeted youth workers, Portage, Health visitors and SENcos etc.
We can support with the completion of Disability Living Allowance forms, giving support with what to include and how to answer the difficult timings and frequency to represent your child’s specific care needs. Sometimes it is helpful to have someone sit with you to do this, especially if it is the first time you have completed one of these forms. We can also support with Mandatory reconsideration and DLA/PIP Tribunals, not as a representative for your child’s case but as a support for you.
We have seen the amount of referrals double in the last six months and are finding that parents are appreciating the ability for someone to come to them and support with a specific difficulty or to have longer term support through a challenging period. With an increase being seen in children with SEND being on reduced timetables, being Electively home educated and disengaging from education it is imperative we work together to support our children and ensure that the statutory services are understanding, assessing and meeting the Education, health and social care needs of our children and young people.
