Parent Support and Education Workshops: Introduction to Sensory Processing
This course is commissioned by the NHS and delivered by Vigere OT Cornwall
The course will offer:
- Introduction to the sensory systems and how these impact upon a child’s functioning
- Opportunity to understand your own sensory profile to support co-regulation and attunement
- Explore the links between a child’s development, relationships and sensory processing
- Develop a sensory enrichment plan for the home environment
- Time to meet other parents and caregivers attending the group
Please be aware, they will not be able to provide specific assessment of individual children in this group
WRAPS Training – Work, Rest and Play the Sensory Way
WRAPS pathway is for children who are School entry to 8 years and who meet the Children’s Community Therapy Service Referral Criteria for Cornwall.
UNIVERSAL – SENCo Training
The training provides an understanding of individual sensory differences and needs, enabling teachers to identify and support sensory challenges faced by children within the school environment. On completion of this training SENCos will be asked to disseminate learning within their school(s) so that basic strategies are introduced as needed to support pupils’ sensory regulation. School staff – SENCO’s, Teachers and TA’s can book this training through – Services for Schools Cornwall. The Physical and Medical Needs Advisory Service – PMNAS can be contacted if there are any difficulties with booking this training.
All stages of the WRAPS pathway are by request. It is anticipated that For Most families, Stages 1 and 2 will meet the child’s needs. There are further stages of the pathway if and when required by a small number of children, when clinically indicated following Triage.
WRAPS STAGE ONE – Parent Training (for parents of children referred to the Community Children’s Occupational Therapy Service)
WRAPS STAGE TWO – Combined Parent/Teaching Staff Workshops – this workshop focuses on individualised sensory profile, individual Goals and Therapy Program generation for both home and school.
